Hangar 9 is best understood as a premium balsa ARF specialist with a small PNP bridge lineup and an increasingly important turbine segment. It is not a beginner brand, and the ARF label carries real completion work: motor or engine selection, servo installation, radio setup, linkage work and often retract integration. If you accept that ownership model, you get factory-finished built-up wood airframes that fly with the mass and presence foam models rarely match.

The smart first step is usually a 60-inch Ultra Stick or PT-19 PNP if you're coming from foam. From there, the 20cc PNP Cub and Valiant models are the most accessible routes into true giant scale. Warbird builders should look hard at the 20cc P-47D or P-51D, then decide whether the 60cc Mustang's transport and retract demands are realistic. Twin and turbine buyers need to budget for the complete system, not just the airframe.
